Beware the wild rovers of Limerick and Lewisham

Article Abstract:

The case of 12 people from the travelling community in Lewisham, London, England, who were removed from a flight to Jamaica following conflict with other passengers has highlighted the role of this community in local society. The members of this community, many of whom have links with the travelling community in Ireland, live outside normal society and operate within a culture of violence, poverty and drink. They tend to be stronger and more vibrant than many of those whom they live alongside.

Time bandits

Article Abstract:

Rolex watches are symbols of luxury, and have become targets for thieves in the streets of London, England. They were prized for their durability and accuracy when they first appeared, and have since been designed with diamond decorations, and have become symbolic of a certain style rather than a desire for accuracy. Rolex watches are especially popular in Asia, though there are some commentators in Britain who see them as outmoded and symbolic of excess.

Johnny Rotten, Coleridge and me

Article Abstract:

Filmmaker Julien Temple greatly admires French filmmaker Jean Vigo, who died at 29 after making only three films. He feels that Vigo's work is particularly interesting because it does not follow conventions and is therefore very fresh. Vigo is the focus of Temple's first feature film since the late 1980s, entitled 'Vigo: passion for Life.' Temple also plans to make a film about Wordsworth and Coleridge and the year of 'Lyrical Ballads,' 1798.
