Pairs of employees at Wimbledon All-England Tennis Club, England, key-in statistics to a network of over 70 computer systems as each match progresses. IBM provides a multimedia system using full-motion video, computer graphics and tables of statistics available by touch. Television and radio commentators use the up-to-date data to analyse the game. Viewers hear many statistics as the data comes through live. Good commentators follow the human features of a match and observe its ebb and flow.

'Hummers' win fight for inquiry

Article Abstract:

A two-year study to find the source of a low frequency droning noise is being funded by the Department of the Environment. Many people cannot hear the noise but 500 new cases are reported each year and some sufferers need tranquillisers. The noise is described as an engine constantly running or a fire engine hose pumping. One theory is that the cause is underground gas pipes. Turbines pump gas at very high pressure. British Gas conducted tests but found no link.
