Biotech catches up with its advance publicity
Article Abstract:
Cantab Pharmaceuticals and British Biotechnology health care companies are seeking a public listing in the US as the market is better and UK Stock Exchange rules are problematic for companies with products not yet available. The Bio-industry Association and the National Economic Development Office (Nedo) are invesigating financing. British biotechnology companies now have promising products such as a possible Aids vaccine which need funds to be put on the market. American flotation could lead to American ownership, losing Britain another innovation.

Science's love of publicity
Article Abstract:
It has become very common for scientists to seek publicity for their work. It is natural that working scientists want to be given credit for what they discover, but this does not necessarily mean that they have to have widespread publicity. They argue that publicity assists them in gaining research grants and boosts morale in laboratories. However, there is no firm evidence to support this view. Indeed, publicity may even be a negative factor in the eyes of grant-making bodies.
