Politicians' claims about the strength of the UK economy are assessed. It is concluded that the UK only benefit from genuine economic strength if the Bank of England and global circumstances combine to stop a recession emerging. It is not yet clear whether this will really happen.

Horrible year of hangover and misplaced hope

Article Abstract:

The world economy has suffered a generalized slowdown in 2001. There have been a number of reasons for this, including excessive investment in technology. The UK economy remains reasonably strong, but this will not persist unless the world economy begins to revive.
