Blame the parents

Article Abstract:

People who experience difficulties in childhood often become high achievers in adult life. A child who becomes acquainted with feelings of loss and deprivation can become extremely strong, learning to triumph over adversity. These are valuable lessons which can lead to success in adult life. This was the case with Sir Winston Churchill, for example, whose father died relatively young and whose mother was not warm or approachable. These experiences, together with being sent to boarding school at an early age, laid the foundations for the characteristics which later made him a great leader.

America, land of the sick

Article Abstract:

Bill Clinton promises every American will have access to health care if he becomes president. He would have a nationally agreed budget and employers would pay for health insurance. The government would pay for non-workers. The existing system costs about twice as much as the British NHS but one in seven people are not covered. The health system has increased to 13% of national output in 1992 compared with 7% in 1970. Millions of people cannot afford cover.
