Bookworm who turned
Article Abstract:
Rupert Murdoch, owner of publishing house HarperCollins, has become accustomed to key executives following his wishes on all matters. Indeed, they agreed to abandon plans to publish Chris Patten's memoirs of the handover of Hong Kong to China, as Murdoch did not wish to alienate the authorities in China, where he wishes to extend his television broadcasting activities. However, publisher Stuart Proffitt has publicly gone against Murdoch, with his resignation from HarperCollins highlighting the extent to which this formerly powerful publishing house has bowed to Murdoch's interests.
