VDTs and vision - workforce problems for the '90s
Article Abstract:
The National Research Council conducted a two-year study on the health risk factors associated with the use of video display terminals (VDTs) and concluded that VDT use is not associated with significant health problems. However, there are certain factors researchers did not consider that are crucial to employee productivity, including employee comfort and performance/efficiency. Most of the complaints associated with VDT use are the result of a failure of compliance with principles of design and practice. Employers can facilitate employee productivity by paying greater attention to operator comfort and by minimizing vision problems. Recommendations on proper placement of the VDT terminal, copy, lighting, task breaks, and glare reduction are presented. The article includes a discussion of the need for glasses and vision therapy.

But what about my orgasms?
Article Abstract:
Hysterectomy must affect orgasm if it is felt as muscular contractions in the womb and cervix. Many consultants insist the female orgasm is clitoral. Researchers have found that the cervix is a source of sexual pleasure. A 1981 study in Finland and a Japanese study in 1982 investigated the sex lives of women after hysterectomy but there has not been a British study. Transcervical resection of the endometrium (TRCE) is a less invasive operation which does not remove the cervix.

Gates for dummies: though hard to fathom, the Microsoft antitrust trial matters to us all
Article Abstract:
Bill Gates financial and corporate success is matched by his determination to produce new technology for computer software and control how that technology is distributed. The Dept of Justice has challenged the legality of his effort to control network access to the Internet. Gates' capacity to control the market share in computer operating systems may be surpassed by his obsession with dominating the standards for Internet communications.
