Many aspiring celebrities now feel that it is necessary to write a novel in order to really secure fame. This trend is having negative repercussions for the genre, and is also weakening the position of writers whose talents lie in other genres. It is very easy to write a poor quality novel, while writing a really successful novel is extremely difficult. Many writers would do better if they were to focus on other genres, but writing a novel seems to have become the benchmark for literary achievement.

The real life of Salman Rushdie

Article Abstract:

Salmna Rushdie was born in Bombay in 1948. He went to Rugby and Cambridge. He worked in fringe theatre and advertising before writing his first novel. Special Branch protect him and he is frequently on the move. The government realised that keeping a low profile was unsuitable. Rushdie's own campaign organised by the Article 19 anti-censorship organisation and threats from Iran induced a change in British policy in Feb 1993. Douglas Hogg at the Foreign Office promised to help.
