Cancel that invite to the virtual dinner party

Article Abstract:

There is now a wide range of interactive technology which allows communications between people who would not otherwise be able to communicate with each other. Despite this, personal contact remains extremely important. This was reflected in the recent presidential election in the US, when both the main candidates devoted a great deal of time and energy to meeting as many people as possible. It seems that the more advanced technology becomes, the more important it is for people to maintain personal contact.

Interest rates could be a big problem for Brown

Article Abstract:

Shadow chancellor Gordon Brown will find it very difficult to reverse the tax cut which the UK Conservative government's Nov 1996 Budget will bring into effect in Apr 1997 if the Labour party wins a May 1997 general election. He will have to honour commitments made by the Labour party during the election campaign, and will also be committed to some extra spending. Overall, it would be difficult for a new Labour government to take any radical changes in direction in the area of economic policy.
