Carving up the cult of Kerouac

Article Abstract:

The value of the estate of Jack Kerouac has risen to between $10 million and $20 million since his death in 1969 as he has become an icon of pop culture. His estate has been the subject of controversy since 1994, when his daughter Jan sued for control of his archives. There is now conflict between John Sampas, Kerouac's brother-in-law, who keeps firm control of the estate, and Gerald Nicosia, author of a Kerouac biography and literary executor of Jan Kerouac's estate.

Article Abstract:

Media magnate Rupert Murdoch has undertaken a number of high profile deals recently, but he has now been overshadowed by Michael Eisner, chairman of Disney, who has managed to negotiate the purchase of Capital Cities/ABC, the leading US television network. The deal will make Eisner extremely wealthy, and many observers believe that he will become the most powerful figure in popular culture worldwide.
