Catastrophe!

Article Abstract:

It is possible that the many disasters that occurred in the sixth century, including the bubonic plague that devastated the Roman Empire and much of the wider world and famines and civil war in southern China, were all connected with the enormous volcanic explosion believed to have taken place on the volcanic island of Krakatoa in the Sunda Straits between Java and Sumatra in Feb 535AD. This explosion caused significant disruption to the world's climate. It is likely that there were many earthquakes before the eruption, while afterwards there was drought, famine and disease.

A gallery opens - after 18,000 years

Article Abstract:

The discovery of prehistoric drawings in a previously unknown complex of caves at an existing cave site in the Ardeche region of France is the most significant find of its kind for around 50 years. The complex has remained completely untouched since the Stone Age, and the drawings contained in it are masterpieces. They are in excellent condition, and feature at least 13 different species of animal. There are four chambers in the complex, and on the walls of each chamber are very naturalistic paintings of both animals and humans.
