Charlotte Perriand

Article Abstract:

Designer Charlotte Perriand came to the attention of Swiss architect Le Corbusier in 1927 when she exhibited a cocktail bar she had designed for her apartment in St Sulpice, Paris, France. He employed her to design furniture using materials such as hand-made papers and metal plates. The original of her tubular steel rocking-chair, one of her most admired works, was made in 1928 with the assistance of Le Courbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. She was a founder member of the left-wing Union des Artistes Modernes in 1929.
