Christmas shopping habits
Article Abstract:
Retail sales in the UK during 1997 grew by 6.4%, with sales amounting to 178.3 billion pounds sterling. Non-food retail sales rose by 7.9% to 86.83 billion pounds sterling, with food retailer sales rising by 5.4% to 80.38 billion and the remainder accounted for by non-store retailing. However, the economic outlook is unpredictable, mainly because of the recent problems in Asia and Russia, and the possibility of a worldwide recession, although sales for Christmas 1988 should not be affected.

Christmas shopping habits
Article Abstract:
Food retailers in the UK are expecting strong demand for food and drink related products over the Christmas and New Year period for 1999, driven by people determined to have parties celebrating the Millennium in their own homes. Late night shopping and a later start to the Christmas shopping period is not likely to have an overall affect on retail figures. The most popular presents for 1999 gift season are expected to be clothes or computer-retailed technologies and compact discs.
