Clare Short faces a barrage of criticism from Israel after speech

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom Secretary of State for Overseas Development Clare Short has created a tense situation with Israel after expressing sympathy with the plight of the Palestinians in a speech to Medical Aid for the Palestinians. Israel responded negatively to this speech, claiming that she had compared Israel's attitude towards the Palestinians with that of the Nazis towards the Jews. Attempts are now being made by Israel to stop former Israeli deputy foreign minister Yossi Beilin meeting Short on his visit to the UK.

Jordan fury over first death in confrontation

Article Abstract:

There has been extensive rioting in the desert town of Ma'an, Jordan, following the death of Mohammed Adbullah al-Kateb, a student who was demonstrating in favour of Iraq. The demonstration seems to have followed a sermon delivered in the town's mosque by Leith Shubeilat, president of the Jordanian Engineers' Association and a strong supporter of Iraq. Police used tear gas and guns to quash the demonstration, and this is what led to the victim's death.

Holocaust that Israel would rather ignore

Article Abstract:

Israel is expected to shortly withdraw the name of Professor Ehud Toledano as its candidate to be its next ambassador to Turkey. This is because he has openly talked about the massacre of Armenians by Turkey in 1915. Turkey denies that Armenians were ever massacred or made to participate in forced marches. Israel has a political and military alliance with Turkey, and is taking care not to place strains on the relationship between the two countries.
