Russian bogey turns into gold mine for Finns: trading ties are now booming between two old foes
Article Abstract:
Many Russians now cross the border into Finland to go shopping, and Finnish retailers are making considerable efforts to encourage this trend. Finnish companies are beginning to realise that Russia offers a very large potential market, but they also accept that it is necessary to exercise great patience when attempting to establish a presence in Russia. Finns believe that trading links with Russia will continue to improve, but are also rather cautious about doing business in Russia.

Article Abstract:
Nato is set to see the addition of a number of central and eastern European countries to its membership in 1999. A similar development will take place with the European Union in 2000. The countries most likely to join these organisations at an early stage are Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. Nato plans to hold a summit in late spring or early summer 1997 at which invitations will be made to as yet unnamed central and eastern European countries.
