Conductor of hope and glory

Article Abstract:

The Last Night of the Proms is both an exhilarating and a frightening experience, according to conductor Andrew Davis. He enjoys the very excited atmosphere of this concert, but is also aware that the audience can become out of control. He is very surprised that the song 'Land of Hope and Glory,' which is very closely associated with the Last Night of the Proms, has become so popular abroad, as it expresses sentiments which are very British. He will conduct his final Last Night in Sep 2000, and will then move to Chicago to direct the Chicago Lyric Opera.
