Deadwood stages revival of Wild West casino

Article Abstract:

The legalisation of casino gambling in the state of South Dakota in 1989 proved a turning point for the town of Deadwood, which had been suffering an economic decline. It has only 2,000 residents, but now attracts 1.3 million visitors a year, and bets amount to more than $50 million a month. However, there have also been some negative aspects to this development, including the closure of ordinary shops and a rise in gambling-related crime.
