Article Abstract:
Protest singer woody Guthrie is not an historical relic, according to singer Billy Bragg, who was commissioned by Guthrie's daughter to write melodies for many sets of lyrics written by Guthrie but never performed. Guthrie was a living, breathing man who was prepared to take many risks. Guthrie's daughter recognized that there were many similarities between Guthrie and Bragg, particularly as many as the songs Guthrie grew up with were English folk ballads.

Article Abstract:

She rebelled against this by creating Shakespear's Sister, a group which proved extremely popular. She suffers frequently from depression, and this is clear in the songs she writes.
