Dr Strangelove's secrets

Article Abstract:

New historical material contains significant revelations about the Cold War era. These revelations include the fact that there would have been a response with Soviet tactical nuclear weapons if the US had invaded Cuba during the 1962 missile crisis and that the division of Germany was the result of US policies that prompted the Soviets to begin creating the Iron Curtain. Dramatic new insights have been gained into this era, but some key archives are still closed. These include the KGB archive in Moscow, Russia, and the presidential archive.

Car fraud gangs pocket a fortune

Article Abstract:

Criminals in the UK are finding it harder to steal luxury cars, so are turning to alternative ways of handling such cars illegally. They are purchasing luxury cars with cherished or personalized number plates on hire purchase, frequently from Northern Ireland. The documents used to obtain hire purchase finance are usually forged. The criminal pays the minimum deposit and 'buys' the car, but then never makes any repayments. The car is re-registered in Northern Ireland, and is then sold on.
