Eugene Shoemaker
Article Abstract:
Eugene Shoemaker was a specialist in planetarygeology and was seen as the father of this subject. He discovered the Shoemaker-Levy comet with David Levy, which later broke up with pieces crashing into the planet Jupiter. This crash illustrated the arguing that the impact of meteorites is a process that continues. He notes that such an impact on Earth could be misread as a nuclear explosion. He helped train astronauts prior to their journeys to the Moon, and has wanted to travel there himself.
