The power and the glory
Article Abstract:
Former French president Francois Mitterrand, who died recently, was no more successful a politician than many others. He was actually most influential for his grand architectural visions. He had a clear understanding of the symbolic value and power of architecture, and played a key role in enhancing the splendour of Paris. He will probably be most widely remembered as the driving force behind the glass pyramid at the Louvre.

Building cities of the imagination
Article Abstract:
Architecture has had a strong influence on developments in film-making, while films have also inspired architects. Films in which architecture plays a key role are currently being shown at the RIBA's Architecture Centre. Film-makers have put architecture to a wide range of uses, and in some films buildings themselves have played a starring role.
