Experiment in nostalgia

Article Abstract:

A nostalgia for the 1970s is emerging in television programming in the UK. Working Title, the television unit of PolyGram, is working on scripts of a new version of the early 1970s detective series 'Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased),' for example, while the series 'The Professionals' is currently being remade at Shepperton Studios. Some observers argue that the 1970s was a creatively fertile era because television was then under the control of impresarios and film-makers such as Lew Grade. However, they also point out that traditional formats, especially for detective programmes, will not necessarily be successful.

It's on television where the wild things are

Article Abstract:

Wildlife programmes are a key element of the output of terrestrial television networks across the world. There is also growing interest among satellite and cable broadcasters in wildlife programmes, which are very popular with viewers and have the advantage of being suitable for transmission in many different countries. Wildlife programmes are cheaper to produce than many other types of programming, and can be used by terrestrial franchisees to meet their obligation to provide factual programmes.

How Channel 4 betrayed me

Article Abstract:

Channel 4's 'Party Crashers,' part of the 'Politics Isn't Working' series, is discussed. It is argued that this programme was imbalanced, failing to give a proper insight into the workings of the Conservative party.
