Fascist chief spreads fear over Russia

Article Abstract:

Alexander Barkashov, leader of the Russian National Unity party, is quietly building up a significant following. Indeed, liberals allege that the party has infiltrated the army and the police. Barkashov shuns publicity, but has stated that he plans to challenge Yuri Luzhkov, the mayor of Moscow, Russia, who has banned rallies by his supporters, for the constitutional right of assembly. Fascism has a very negative image in Russia, and Barkashov is therefore careful to deny that his party is fascist.

Philby's widow tells of an Englishman's life in exile

Article Abstract:

Many untruths have been told about Cold War master-spy Kim Philby, according to Rufina Ivanovna Pukhova, his widow. He believed that he was fighting against fascism, and did not feel that he had betrayed the UK. She is particularly concerned by reports that Philby suffered from depression after he came to see the reality of life in the then Soviet Union. In particular, she denies that he committed suicide in May 1988.
