Father to a rising nation

Article Abstract:

Walter Sisulu, deputy president of the African National Congress (ANC), was 80 on May 18 1992. He brought the beliefs that racists are morally inferior and that whites should receive ordinary respect to ANC philosophy. He founded the ANC Youth League with Nelson Mandela in 1944. After the National Party came to power in 1948 he organised many protests as secretary general of the ANC and spent many periods in prison. In 1964 he was sentenced to life imprisonment. His wife Albertina brought up the family of five who all succeeded academically and attained significant posts.

Keys to unlock the South African economic shackles

Article Abstract:

South African finance, trade and industry minister Derek Keys presented graphs of economic trends to the ANC. Mr Keys was previously exec chmn of Gencor, the country's second-largest mining finance house. State employment has increased greatly, without reference to available resources. Gross domestic investment is 16%, preventing growth. New investment is needed. He recommends a national economic forum of the ANC-allied Congress of South Africa Trade Unions and business.

Cosmo woman ensures SA is safe for 'Sex.' (legal appeal against a ban on Madonna photographs in Cosmopolitan magazine in Pretoria, South Africa)

Article Abstract:

In Pretoria, South Africa the Publications Appeal Board were investigating a ban on Cosmopolitan magazine's December issue which included photographs from Madonna's best-selling book 'Sex.' Lawyer Lauren Jacobson said Madonna challenged patriarchy and questioned a university fine arts professor, Bob Cnoops, about the artistic aspects of the photographs. The magazine was declared not undesirable.
