America expects the old Clinton deal

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton, who now looks set to win a second term in office, has not performed particularly well as president. Indeed, he has often been opportunistic, irresolute and insincere. It is likely that the Republicans will retain a majority in both Senate and House, and the new Clinton administration will therefore be forced to make compromises. Clinton will almost certainly adopt resolutely centrist approaches, and his second term is likely to prove disappointing.

Clinton seals second term

Article Abstract:

Early exit polls indicate that president Bill Clinton will gain a strong victory over Republican candidate Bob Dole in the presidential elections. This will make Clinton the first Democrat since Franklin Roosevelt in 1936 to be re-elected. Clinton's supporters are in a very positive mood, even though the final stages of campaigning were marred by new concerns about the ethics of his administration, serving to reduce his lead.
