Gadgetry boom bottoms out

Article Abstract:

Spending on electronic appliances has reached its upper limit in Japan. Although companies have continued fine tuning their products, these refinements are insufficient to persuade the Japanese to keep buying. As some of the world's richest consumers, they are now looking for other areas of consumption. Although most Japanese own many household appliances, their homes are mostly poor quality buildings and one economist, Paul Summerville, predicts that housing will be the next large consumer market.
