Garson Kanin

Article Abstract:

Playwright, scriptwriter, theatre and film director Garson Kanin worked as a telegram messenger and sales clerk before forming a group, Garson Kay and his Red Peppers. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and made his Broadway debut in 1933 in 'Li'l Old Boy.' He gained responsibility for casting and directing road companies of George Abbott productions, and subsequently became assistant to Sam Goldwyn for a year. He directed 'A Man to Remember' in 1934. His greatest success was 'Born Yesterday,' released in 1946.

James Goldman

Article Abstract:

Playwright, novelist and screenwriter James Goldman was undertaking postgraduate studies at Columbia University when he was drafted into the army. When discharged, he decided to become a playwright. His first play on Broadway was the 1961 production 'Blood, Sweat and Stanley Poole,' written with his brother William. The brothers collaborated with John Kander on the 1962 musical 'A Family Affair.' He gained the Academy Award for the screen adaptation of his own play 'The Lion in Winter.'

Jason Miller

Article Abstract:

Playwright and actor Jason Miller was born in Long Island City, NY, in 1939. He studied English and philosophy at the University of Scranton. His first successful play was 'That Championship Season.'
