German army officers still loyal to Nazis
Article Abstract:
It is becoming clear that the number of Nazi sympathizers in the Bundeswehr, the German army, is considerably higher than has traditionally been believed. Some 20% of applicants to the Bundeswehr university show nationalist-conservative tendencies, for example, and soldiers at the Franz-Josef-Strauss barracks in Altenstadt, Germany, are known to regularly celebrate Hitler's birthday. Concern about this issue has prompted Defence Minister Volker Ruhe to call for an independent inquiry into the armed forces.

Racist burning puts a village on trial
Article Abstract:
An electrician, a florist, a building worker and a heating engineer from Dolgenbrodt, Germany, are due to go on trial, accused of plotting the arson attack on accommodation for African refugees carried out on Nov 1, 1992, two days before around 80 African asylum-seekers arrived in the town. Silvio Jaskowski, a neo-Nazi, has already been convicted of the actual arson attack, but has turned state's evidence in order to avoid going to jail. This case has put the entire local community under the spotlight.

Neo-Nazis who killed five Turks are jailed
Article Abstract:
Three neo-Nazi skinheads who were involved in setting fire to an immigrant house in Solingen, Germany, in 1993, leading to the deaths of two Turkish women and three girls, have received maximum 10-year jail sentences. A fourth neo-Nazi has been given a 15-year sentence. Many observers believe that this sentences are not harsh enough, and claim that the courts should give a much clearer signal that racism will not go unpunished.
