Get your degree to be a winner in the work race

Article Abstract:

Employers in the UK are much more likely to consider applicants who have a degree than those who do not. Indeed, those who become successful in business without having first gained a degree are very unusual. Employers can be certain that a university education will have provided applicants with the sort of intelligence needed in a rapidly changing business environment. Furthermore, many university courses are now placing more emphasis on skills such as communication and flexibility.

Economic recovery is creating new job opportunities in the financial services industry for people who have had the relevant experience. Some skills shortages are emerging, and newly qualified accountants and auditors with special abilities can command high salaries. There is particularly high demand for languages and experience abroad as the UK's financial services industry becomes more international.

Many graduates are still attracted to a career with a financial institution, despite the problems now facing many of these institutions. Graduates are benefiting from the greater availability of industrial placements, and most financial institutions are still recruiting large numbers of graduates. Temping has become an increasingly popular way of gaining entry to the profession.
