Girls, are you sure you want this promotion?

Article Abstract:

There is strong demand for women journalists in the UK as newspaper editors seek to attract women readers. However, women journalists may not necessarily enjoy a satisfactory and fulfilling career. It has become too common for mediocre women journalists to be given a column, while most of their male counterparts must wait for many years for a column. Women journalists are often pushed aside into lifestyle sections, and they are not really taken very seriously.
