Grade A or just a B plus?
Article Abstract:
The influence of Michael Grade, who has recently resigned as chief executive of Channel Four, was a key element in allowing the broadcaster to become relatively strong. Grade was successful in improving Channel Four's funding position, and showed that it would not simply sink into obscurity, as some observers had predicted. Channel Four's future without Grade seems rather uncertain. It has had some unsuccessful programmes recently, and this has served to dent its confidence. The new chief executive will have to give particular attention to restoring Channel Four's intellectual structure.

Curriculum: a beginner's notes
Article Abstract:
The suggested curriculum for music in the National Curriculum relies heavily on passive listening to classical composers, which could destroy a love of music and create disinterest. The Government hopes to induce an appreciation of music, but their methods may be counterproductive. Music that is listened to is not as memorable as that which is played and children may become bored with a repertoire of purely classical music and with not being able to explore rhythm by looking at popular music.
