Green options still rare for corporate travellers

Article Abstract:

The leisure sector of the travel industry has become much more environmentally-aware over recent years, with travellers being encouraged to respect local traditions and conserve water, for example. However, a similar trend has not been seen in the business travel sector. Business travellers frequently use large cars and taxis, stay in hotels which consume vast amounts of energy and fly relatively short distances. However, there are now moves to encourage business travellers to use companies which have their own environmental policy and programmes.

Executive action can help to save the planet

Article Abstract:

There has been a positive reaction to the Business Travel Environmental Code of Contracting established by the Institute of Travel Management, which has around 800 corporate members. Indeed, the International Business Travel Association has decided to adopt the code as a global standard. The code is based around environmental questions aimed at airlines and hotels. Issues addressed include whether a hotel has energy efficient lighting and whether airlines are involved in research into more fuel-efficient aircraft.

Travellers get a taste for the stars

Article Abstract:

Airlines have been making considerable efforts recently to improve the standard of the meals they offer, especially to business and first class passengers. However, some meals can still be of a very poor quality, especially on charter flights. Preparing good food to serve on an aircraft can be extremely difficult, as the food must be able to withstand delays, dehydration and reheating.
