Hail Morgan Grenfell, comeback kings
Article Abstract:
Morgan Grenfell, the asset management unit of Deutsche Bank, has seen a very strong recovery since 1997. It beat the FTSE All-Share index in 1998, when its flagship pooled pension fund achieved a return of 16.4%. Its success has been partly attributable to the fact that it has not faced much serious competition, but it has also benefited from spotting a series of investment trends that its rivals had not noticed. It will not be able to rely on continued underperformance by its rivals, and will face growing competition from passive fund management.
Comment:
Asset management unit of Deutsche Bank again profitable.

Companies switch from equity to debt
Article Abstract:
A growing number of leading UK companies are turning to corporate bonds as a source of finance. Institutional investors are strongly attracted to these corporate bond issues as they seek higher returns from investments. Research indicates that corporate bonds consistently outperform gilts, even when adjusted for differing levels of risk, and corporate bonds are also becoming more popular because of the relative scarcity of government bonds.
