Hannibal's army of skiers flees 'white hell' of the Alps, vowing never to return

Article Abstract:

Many holidaymakers are leaving the Paznaun valley in Austria following avalanches in the ski resorts of Galtur and Valzur. Those evacuated from Galtur had been trapped there before the avalanche struck because the only road out was blocked, but it had not been anticipated that the resort itself would be in danger. The avalanche in Galtur provided valuable warning for those in Valzur, where it was possible to identify in advance which areas of the resort would be relatively safe if an avalanche struck.

Second avalanche hits resorts as storms halt rescue mission

Article Abstract:

A major avalanche has hit the ski resort of Valzur, Austria. This resort is close to Galtur, Austria, where an earlier avalanche killed at least 16 people. The total number of people missing in both resorts is at least 32. Preparations are being made to evacuate up to 5,000 people from the region, but rescue efforts are being severely hampered by continuing heavy snowfall. International assistance is being made available, but it is proving very difficult to reach the resorts.

Austrians have never been taught not to hate foreigners

Article Abstract:

Xenophobia seems to be more socially acceptable in Austria than in other Western European countries. Many Austrians regard foreigners as criminals, and Freedom Party leader Jorg Haider, who has promised to stop Austria being overrun by foreigners, has gained considerable support. Anti-foreigner propaganda in Austria is motivated less by malice than by genuine ignorance and the fact that political correctness has not yet become established.
