How Noel saved the BBC (He resigned)

Article Abstract:

The decision by television presenter Noel Edmonds to resign from the BBC may have been prompted by the realization that his popularity was waning. He had always believed that he was indispensable to the BBC, but it is reported that the BBC did not plan to renew his contract after it expired in Mar 2000. The whole of his career in television has reflected the declining fortunes of the BBC, particularly the stretching of budgets by shifting to all-day television. His commercial style of television was never really suited to the BBC.

The profits of Tomb and gloom

Article Abstract:

Computer games publisher Eidos is enjoying strong growth, despite operating in a notoriously difficult sector. Investment analysts now regard the company as the leading performer among UK software houses, and its share price has risen dramatically. The company's success is mainly attributable to the popularity of Lara Croft, the game that has now sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. It derives significant benefits from making games for the Sony Playstation, with the gross margin on a sold game being close to 65%.

Why should business be a bore?

Article Abstract:

Many BBC producers used to regard business as boring, according to senior BBC producer Robert Thirkell. However, this situation has now changed, especially under Thirkell's own influence. He believes that business is itself an adventure and that business people make extremely interesting television. His new Business and Adventure Unit already has 12 series in production, and he is now beginning to focus on managing the projects of others, rather than making programmes himself.
