How to make a profit: first make a loss

Article Abstract:

Netscape Communications' decision to give away its Netscape Navigator Internet browser is a reflection of the fact that online commerce is a market where experience can only be learned, rather than taught. Netscape has recognized that its Web site and its non-client technology sales are particularly important revenue streams. It is generating $25 million per quarter from its Web site, and anticipates very rapid development in this area. It is also possible to learn from Netscape's experience that the best Web business model is to provide a gateway to the Internet and then sell the users of it to advertisers.

Caught in a Net of corruption?

Article Abstract:

Many British consumers associate the Internet with pornography, fraud and addiction, according to research undertaken by Which? Online. They believe that the risk of personal financial information being abused on the Internet is high, and some even regard the Internet as a threat to national security. There is also widespread concern about pornography on the Internet. Experts feel that misunderstandings have emerged about the Internet because most ordinary people have had very little exposure to it.
