'I will not be defeated by the News at Ten elitists.'
Article Abstract:
ITV has gradually become more responsive to its audience during the 1990s. It still shows important minority programmes, but they take their place on merit, rather than on principle. Since 'News at Ten' became 'ITV Nightly News,' it has been possible to show significant, lengthy programmes at peak viewing times, as well as catering to very mainstream tastes. The new schedule shows risk and ambition, but will take some time to become settled.
