I'm OK but my dog needs a shrink
Article Abstract:
David Appleby is a dog behavioural counsellor and from his home in Worcestershire he runs a chain of 14 clinics called Dog Help. He is chairman of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and a visiting counsellor to the Cambridge University Veterinary School. He handled 1,123 referrals in 1991 and 90% of them had a successful outcome. Problems can arise for a number of reasons, a common one being separation anxiety. Dogs can lose control when their owners go out and can become incontinent and destructive. Treatment includes pretending to go out and then not and also being less pleasant to the dog.

That sinking feeling
Article Abstract:
The UK Environment Agency plans to invest more than 3 million pounds sterling in constructing a secondary defence for Salthouse, England, where coastal defences are being eroded by large tides. This plan, which would involve constructing a clay bank more than 12 ft high, has attracted mixed reactions from local people. The case of Salthouse will have significant implications for the way in which the 1994 European Union Habitats Directive is applied in coastal environments.

Shaken by the aftershock
Article Abstract:
People who experience a serious accident, the sudden death of a close relative or a similar trauma can initially seem to cope reasonably well with the shock. It may be some years before the full extent of what has happened hits them. They may find that they need psychiatric help, and some turn to hypnotherapy. Help can also be obtained from the Trauma After-Care Trust (Tact).
