Article Abstract:

The UK government is attracting considerable controversy through its policy of seeking views from many different population groups. In particular, mixed views have been expressed about Education Secretary David Blunkett's support for efforts to seek children's views about their schools. It is possible to argue that the government's approach should be gradually widened, bearing in mind the fact that there are still relatively few opportunities for people with differing political opinions to exchange views.

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has made it clear that he is firmly committed to the arts and culture. However, he is determined to ensure that public money is not spent ineffectively by arts institutions. It is clear that there must be additional funding for the arts, and this problem will have to be addressed rigorously by Gerry Robinson, Arts Council Chmn. Care must also be taken to build on public enthusiasm for the arts.
