In search of creative oddballs
Article Abstract:
Many companies state that they encourage creativity, but this is often not reflected in their hiring policy. This is not the case with international entertainment company PolyGram, which states that 'creativity is our business.' It is always looking for creativity among its employees and applicants, but this does not mean that it tolerates incompetence. Instead, it prefers people who are slightly odd, rather than those with a predictable career path.

Article Abstract:
Henry Stewart, founder of training company Happy Computers, has a very relaxed attitude to staff management issues. He has a great interest in training philosophies, and his management style is clearly admired by his staff, who nominated him for the 1994 Boss of the Year award. He aims to make himself non-essential by the end of 1995, allowing other people to take on the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the company.
