Inside the Serb machine

Article Abstract:

Serb President Slobodan Milosevic clearly understands the great importance of exerting strict control over the media. This has been demonstrated ever since he undertook an internal coup in the Communist party in 1987. Television coverage in Serbia of events in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, where ethnic Albanians were robbed of their autonomy in 1988, has been manipulated to give the impression that these events were designed merely to create equality between Serbs and Albanians in the province.

Hello, good evening, and welcome to Bosnia's Hate TV

Article Abstract:

S Channel, a private television station, is to be launched by hardline supporters of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic. It will compete directly with a television station run by those loyal to Bosnian Serb President Biljana Plavsic. Bosnian television has traditionally been extremely dull and politically biased. The country's television stations are all operated by groups which are keen to present an extreme point of view.

I watched as 'TV Slobbo' turned into voice of hate

Article Abstract:

Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has made extensive use of Radio Televisija Serbija (RTS) to fuel racial hatred against the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Indeed, RTS has been a vital weapon in Milosevic's battle against the Kosovars. This station has dominated broadcasting in Serbia, with private television and radio stations having their range limited by the authorities to the vicinity of Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
