Insulated from the shock of reason

Article Abstract:

American artist Robert Gober produces very bizarre art, evangelising politics or morals by shocking the audience. His 'Male and Female Genitalia Wallpaper' is a particularly striking example of his outlook on the home. He considers the domestic interior, that is the place where wallpaper is used, as somewhere sexuality is unseen and repressed and his wallpaper overcomes this. Wallpaper has also been used by him to refer to America as a country founded on racial prejudice, depicting a sleeping white man and hanging black man motif. Gober is among the most acclaimed US artists of the present day.

Immortal longings

Article Abstract:

The British Museum in London, England, is currently holding an exhibition entitled 'Ancient Faces: Mummy Portraits from Roman Egypt.' These portraits were produced in the first three centuries AD by societies with a rich cultural heritage living along the Nile. They were painted in hot or cold wax on to strips of linen, and were bound over mummified corpses. Visitors to the exhibition are able to come into direct contact with Roman Egyptian society, and gain a strong impression that very little has changed since that time.
