Internet produces its first bestseller
Article Abstract:
The opening of the Internet Book Shop (IBS) shows that the traditional book industry and new electronic media need not necessarily be in competition. It claims to represent the most extensive range of books available on the global network of computers, and is a mixture of a catalogue and a clearing house. Computer users can look up any one of the 750, 000 books listed by Whitakers, and can also scan books by subject. Once they have chosen a book, they can obtain a list of bookshops and publishers which have it for sale.
