It's a small world after all

Article Abstract:

Publishing concern Ellipsis has seen considerable success with city architectural guides. It has published 18 such guides in a small format since 1993, selling approaching 250,000 copies. The first guide, which contained 30,000 words and photographs of more than 140 buildings, was written by Samantha Hardingham while she was studying at the Architectural Association in London, England. Subsequent guides have been produced in an even more attractive format, and seem to offer an insight into mysteries that ordinary people would otherwise not be aware of.

Life in the Twiglet zone

Article Abstract:

Designer Thomas Heatherwick first became really interested in design through being taken to craft fairs by his mother. His designs always surprise in their use of materials and in their form in relation to their final context. They are also distinguished by their highly attractive quality of flow and movement. He has come to public attention recently with his design for a window display at Harvey Nichols in London, England, and with his design for a pedestrianized square in Newcastle, England. He is now very keen to design a whole building.
