It's good to sing

Article Abstract:

Northern European audiences are very warm, especially in countries where there is a culture of concert-going, such as Germany, according to flamenco artist Paco Pena. He is a very unflamboyant person, in sharp contrast to his music, and believes that race is not relevant. He had no formal training in flamenco music, and was more influenced by singers, especially Pastora Pavon, known as La Nina de los Peines. He believes that flamenco offers a universal language, and it is certainly true that flamenco's popularity has not been hindered by the fact that most audiences do not understand Spanish.

Pointe of return

Article Abstract:

It is possible for dancers to cope with a long run of a production if they are careful to remove all the excess from their role, according to dance-actress Lynn Seymour. At the age of 57, she is appearing four nights a week in Matthew Bourne's production of 'Swan Lake' at the Piccadilly Theatre in London, England. She learnt to maximise her resources from ballet stars such as Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, and now herself serves as a role model for principal dancers in the Royal Ballet.

Old age gets hip

Article Abstract:

Dancers who choose to continue performing into old age should be fully aware of their strengths and weaknesses, and should only select works which maximise their remaining powers, according to Jane Dudley, who is still performing at the age of 84. She believes that age has brought experience which has enriched her performances, and she still sets herself extremely high standards. She is determined to continue performing, and has had hip replacements in order to allow herself to do so.
