Japanese Red Army terrorists dream of going home

Article Abstract:

Takahiro Konishi and fellow Japanese student revolutionaries, all members of the Red Army Faction, took a Japan Airlines plane hostage in 1970 and fled to North Korea. They settled there, marrying Japanese women who had entered North Korea illegally. North Korea is now trying to attract western aid, and finds the former revolutionaries an embarrassment. The men now wish to return to Japan, pointing out that their children are Japanese and that they will have better opportunities in Japan.

The Japanese said I no longer had a son

Article Abstract:

The case of Brian Thomas, a British man who married a Japanese woman and found himself embroiled in a battle to retain custody over his son, is not uncommon among people who marry into a foreign culture. In Japan, a chapter of the Children's Rights Council has been formed by a number of foreigners who are in a similar situation. Foreign parents appear to be at a strong disadvantage in Japan, where there are legal difficulties associated with enforcing access.

A royal crisis, Japanese style

Article Abstract:

There is growing concern in Japan about the future of its monarchy, which is the most ancient hereditary monarchy in the world. Indeed, the government is now looking at the possibility of changing the law to allow a woman to succeed Emperor Akihito, and is seeking advice from European royal houses. Crown Prince Naruhito's marriage to Princess Masako remains childless, while the marriage of Prince Fumihito has produced only girls.
