Playwright and scriptwriter Jim Allen began writing in his late 30s after working as a labourer and spending time in prison. He wrote scripts for 'Coronation Street,' but then became more adventurous with works including the 1969 play 'The Talking Head,' the 1967 film 'The Lump' and the 1969 film 'The Big Flame.' His powers and subjects became fully focused in the 1976 seven-hour saga of working people 'Days of Hope.'

Article Abstract:
The usual form of cell death, apoptosis, results in a physical 'mopping up' operation by phagocytes. New evidence suggests that these phagocytes display altered behaviour after ingesting dead cells, which may offer new explanations for how the immune system distinguishes self from foreign proteins.
