Russell murder case will depend on Stone's prison confession, court told

Article Abstract:

The case against Michael Stone, who is accused of murdering Lin and Megan Russell and the attempted murder of Josie Russell in Jul 1996, rests on a confession a fellow inmate at Canterbury Prison claims that Stone made to him. There is no conclusive scientific evidence to link Stone with the murder scene.

Josie 'was beaten and left for dead.' (Michael Stone accused of murder and attempted murder)

Article Abstract:

Michael Stone is standing trial at the Crown Court in Maidstone, England, for the murder of Dr Lin Russell and her daughter Megan and the attempted murder of Josie Russell on Jul 9, 1996. Stone has denied responsibility, but the jury has heard that he discussed details of the attack with a fellow prisoner after being targeted by other prisoners while in prison in Canterbury, England, on remand. There is no forensic evidence to connect Stone directly with the crime, but the prosecution states that the case against him rests on conservations with fellow prisoners and circumstantial evidence.

Police thought Josie was dead and then they saw that she had moved

Police who discovered the bodies of Lin Russell and her daughter Megan in Jul 1998 initially believed that Josie Russell, then aged nine, had also been murdered. They found no signs of life, but more than an hour later realized that she had moved. Michael Stone is accused of the murder of Lin and Megan Russell and of the attempted murder of Josie Russell. A number of witnesses have described seeing a man acting strangely in the area before the murders were committed.
