Lord Grade

Article Abstract:

Dancer, theatrical agent, television executive, theatre owner, businessman and film producer Louis Winogradsky, known as Lew Grade, was born in Tokmak, Ukraine, but emigrated to the UK at the age of five. He left school at 14 to help his father in the garment trade, and at the age of 19 won the World Charleston Championships. He danced for several years before beginning to work as an agent. The most significant development in his career proved to be his involvement with the formation of Associated Television in 1956.

Lord Catto

Article Abstract:

Banker and businessman Stephen Catto was born in 1923. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, England, and served for four years in the RAF. He joined Morgan Grenfell in 1957, spending 40 years there.

Lord Hamlyn

Publisher and philanthropist Paul Hamlyn was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1926. He opened his first bookshop at the age of 21, and later set up his first imprint, Books for Pleasure.
