Lord Menuhin

Article Abstract:

Violinist and conductor Yehudi Menuhin received intensive musical education from a very early age. His parents made many sacrifices to ensure that he received the best possible training. He made his debut as soloist with an orchestra at the age of seven, and received a Stradivarius violin from philanthropist Henry Goldman at the age of 13. He played under most of the great conductors, and became particularly associated with the Mendelssohn concerto. His great charm and his relaxed approach made him very popular with audiences.

William Targ

Article Abstract:

William Targ was a publisher who bought 'The Godfather' from Mario Puzo while Targ was working at GP Putnam as the company's editor-in-chief. He was born in Chicago in 1907, and chaged his name to Targ from Torgownik when he was 18-year-old, after a manager at Macmillan, where he worked, said that the new name would be easier to pronounce. He was a bookseller until 1942, and then worked for World Publishing, where he compiled anthologies. He moved to GP Putnam after 21 years, and officially retired in 1978.
